Laura “Sue” McComas, beloved mother and dedicated public servant, passed away on October 28, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on May 14, 1954, in Nuremberg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary Jo Collins.
Sue graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1973 and began a career that would see her serve her community with distinction. She worked for the City of Warner Robins Police Department from 1981 to 1996, first as a front desk clerk and then as a dispatcher. In 1996, she transferred to Houston County 911, where she continued her role as a dispatcher until her retirement in 2014.
A loving and strong mother, Sue was fiercely supportive of her two daughters, encouraging them in all their pursuits and activities. Her nurturing spirit and dedication to family were evident in everything she did. Sue had a humorous personality that was enjoyed by friends and colleagues.
In her leisure time, Sue enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends. After retirement, she found joy in beading and making jewelry, as well as watching movies. She was also an avid lover of her dachshunds, whose companionship brought her great happiness.
Sue's family and friends will remember her for her unwavering love, strength, and commitment to those she cared about.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Lynn Minter and brother, Philipp Koeppel.
Sue is survived by her mother, Mary Jo Sharp Collins; daughter, Angela Liles (Elijah); grandchildren, Amelia Babb (Cauy), Danielle Pace (Dillon), Traci Cohen, James Cohen, and Ashley Malcom (Noah); great-grandchildren, Hunter and Caroline; and long time friend and caregiver, Judy Cooke.
Visitation will be Friday, November 8, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, with a funeral service immediately following in the chapel. Afterward, Sue will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
