Laverne L. Card

September 9, 1936 — February 15, 2021

Laverne Lashley Card, 84, joined her Lord and Savior in heaven on Monday, February 15, 2021.

Mrs. Card was born on September 9, 1936, in Andersonville, Georgia to the late William Esau and Tressie Athon Lashley. Upon graduating from Oglethorpe High School in 1954, Mrs. Card attended South Georgia Technical College where she received an associate’s degree in bookkeeping. A faithful wife, mother, and grandmother, she devoted her life to making a home for her family. In later years, she worked at the Houston County Board of Education where she retired with sixteen years of service as a cafeteria supervisor. She loved to quilt, and enjoyed her time in the Quilting Club at the Warner Robins Senior Center. She also worked for a brief time at the fabric shop on Robins Air Force Base. Mrs. Card was a member of Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William Kenneth Card, and brother, Wayne Lashley.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Wanda Porterfield (John) of Lawrenceville; Denise James (Gary) of Bonaire; Cheryl Singletary (Lott) of Kathleen; and Michael Card (Joy) of Warner Robins; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers, Kelma Lashley (Linda) and Louie Lashley (Ellen); sister, Jeannie Eubanks; sister-in-law, Shirley Lashley; brother-in-law, Donald Card (Dorothy); and a host of other loving family members and friends.

Visitation with Mrs. Card’s family will be Thursday, February 18, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2021, at Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church with her son-in-law, Elder Gary James officiating. Following the service, Mrs. Card will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery. For friends and family unable to attend, the service will be streamed live via the McCullough Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcculloughfuneralhome/live/.
