It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, Lawrence Haslem III. He went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at the age of 48.
Born in Fort Valley on December 21, 1972, Lawrence was the son of Elizabeth Fudge Haslem and the late Lawrence Haslem, Jr. He grew up in Marshallville and graduated from Macon County High School where he excelled in football and basketball. Lawrence then attended South Georgia Technical College and Macon State College before earning both his Bachelor’s degree in Science and Master’s degree in Computer Science from Mercer University. At the time of his passing, he was working as a software engineer for the Office of Personnel Management.
From the time he was young, Lawrence was steadfast in his faith for the Lord. He was called by God to preach His Word and went on to receive a Doctorate in Theology from Andersonville Theological Seminary. Lawrence was a longtime member of Presence Church in Perry and was dedicated to worshiping and fellowshipping with each of its members. He was also an avid football fan and enjoyed playing the sport and training his son, Rodney, whenever he had the chance. Coaching Upward Flag Football at Central Baptist Church was one of the ways he enjoyed bonding with Rodney and other children, as well.
When he wasn’t at church or relishing in some type of football activity with his son, you more than likely would have found Lawrence reading, watching Marvel movies or playing video games with his son. He deeply adored his family and each of his children and loved taking them on vacations. Lawrence will be remembered by all who knew him as a gentle giant who loved and cherished his wife, children, mother, his church, and his church family.
In addition to his father, Lawrence was preceded in death by his sister, Cassandra Lawann Haslem; his brother, Rodney Barnard Haslem; and his sister-in-law, Crystal Nelson.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Laquiva Darcel Haslem and children, Keyla, Kayla and Rodney Haslem, all of Warner Robins; mother, Elizabeth Fudge Haslem of Byron; stepmother, Sharon Haslem; stepsister, Arlaker Zanders; god sister, Yolanda Larry of Fort Valley; parents-in-law, Johnny and Bessie Nelson of Ideal; sister-in-law, Gwen Nelson; siblings-in-law, Jonathan Nelson (Keshia), Terrence Nelson (Shelia), and Letitia Miller (Chuck); uncles and aunts, Freddy Fudge (Gina), Gary Fudge, Jerome Fudge, Michael Caldwell, Curtis Caldwell, James Fudge, Rodger Fudge, Gregory Fudge, Rosseta Anderson and Annie Ruth Haslem; devoted aunt, Marianne Curry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including his devoted cousin, Lateshia Martin, his very best friend, Ricky Hicks and devoted friends, Justin and Tina Gaston.
Lawrence’s family will receive friends at McCullough Funeral Home on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. An outdoor Homegoing Service will take place behind the Farmhouse at McCullough Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021.
