Dwight L. Williams, 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2011.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral will follow in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
Commander Williams was born in Gonzales, Louisiana on October 8, 1921, to William Thomas Williams and Alice Singletary Williams. He was a retired Navy pilot, serving for twenty-eight years. At the time he retired from the Navy, he had flown every type of aircraft the Navy had. He traveled all over the world, and served during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam Era. Dwight was a graduate of Georgia Southern University, and of The University of Georgia. He retired in 1966 from the Navy in Brunswick, Georgia, and taught school for several years. He moved with his wife to Athens, Georgia in 1973 to study at The University of Georgia. Later, they lived in Augusta, moving in 1992 to Byron, Georgia to be near family. Commander Williams proudly held many offices on local and state levels with the Gideons International for over forty years. For the past three years, he has lived at Summer Hill Assisted Living and Nursing Facility in Perry, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Barbara Elizabeth Young Williams; brothers, Delton Williams, Capper Williams, Holmes Williams, and Bryan Williams; and sister, Berma Williams Montet.
His memory will forever be treasured by his daughter, Lynda Lasseter (Jim), Centerville; sons, Col. Ron Williams (Darlene), Georgetown, Kentucky, Robert Williams (Patricia), Roswell, Georgia, and Richard Williams, Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Joe Tessin (Carey), Byron, Major Ben Williams (Amber), Columbus, Georgia, Daniel Williams (Heather), Berlin, Germany, Jeremy Lasseter (April), Macon, Jennifer Alford (Chris), Warner Robins, Audrey New (Brian), Marietta, and Shannon Snyder (Braxton), Mathews, North Carolina; thirteen great-grandchildren, Brittany, Rachel, and Haley Tessin, Lincoln Taylor Williams, Carter and Abby Williams, Austin Lasseter, Logan and Madison Alford, William Witcher, Reagan and Barrett Neu, and Harper Rose Snyder; and brothers, Keelan Williams, Hilton Williams (Shirley), and Gyles Williams (Rita).
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests donations be given to Gideons International, P.O.
