Lela "Nannie" Tomlinson went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 20, 2013 at the young age of 94. Family will receive friends on Saturday, December 21, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Green Acres Baptist Church, with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
Lela was born on April 22, 1919 at her family home in Lanier County, Georgia. She was the daughter of William Columbus and Georgia Clanton Ganas of Lakeland, Georgia. She was the seventh of eight children, all deceased. Her loving husband of fifty-four years, Jesse Pershing Tomlinson, preceded her in death in 1993.
She was an active member of Green Acres Baptist church since its establishment in 1964. Lela graduated from Lanier County High School in 1939. She moved to Warner Robins from Lakeland in 1951. She and Jesse worked at Robins Air Force Base until their retirement in 1974. Lela was a wonderful wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and "Nannie" to many family and friends and was very much loved by all. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Lela is survived by one daughter, Jessie Carole Christopher and her husband, George of Anderson, South Carolina. Her son, Colin "Buddy" Tomlinson, preceded her in death. Grandchildren, Jason (Tina) Tomlinson, Bonaire; Heather (Clint) Thompson, Sugar Hill, Georgia, Chase (Suzette) Christopher, Anderson, South Carolina; Jill (Michael) Wolf, and Shannon (Christopher) Chase, Greenville, South Carolina; ten great grandchildren, Jesse Tomlinson, Ivey and Kendyl Thompson, Chase and Caroline Christopher, Michael and Macy Wolf, and Reagan, Tillman and Heath Chase; sister-in-law, Jeanie Ganas, and several nieces and nephews. She also had adopted families, Thomas, Deborah, Trent, Tiffan, and Tillman Mason, and Bobby, Sara, Donna, Brenda, and Tammy Brown. She also leaves behind her dear friend, Margaret Bazemore Rentz. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Tammy McDaniel and the entire staff at Kingsford Assisted Living for their outstanding compassion and care of "Nannie".
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be made to Green Acres Baptist Church Building Fund, 901 Elberta Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31093 or to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
