Leon McDuffie Gill, 86, affectionately known as Pete, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2007.
Mr. Gill was born on February 14, 1921 in Taylor County, Georgia the son of the late Lum McDuffie and Amy Desmond Gill. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. Pete was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII. Proudly, he was a life member of VFW Post #6605. He was also a member of the DAV and the American Legion. He retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base. In addition to his parents, his beloved wife, Sarah Doris Watson Gill, and his siblings, Cecil Gill, Dudley Gill, Doris Brackin, Mary Lizzie Purvis, and JoAnn Davis, all preceded him in death.
He will be missed by his loving and devoted children, Judy Gill Johnson (Henry), Macon; son, Larry M. Gill (Diane), Athens; grandchildren, Judy Brown (Gary), Hank Johnson, Leon Johnson (Tammy), Clay Johnson (Amanda), Kelley Padgitt (Kevin), Duffie Gill; great grandchildren, Tripp Johnson (Jessica), April Johnson, Lydia Brown, Teresa Ackerman, Kaitlyn Padgitt, Leland Padgitt; great-great granddaughter, Emily Grace.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2007 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Heartland Hospice 115 Arkwright Landing Macon, Georgia 31210 or to the donor’s favorite charity in memory of Mr. Leon “Pete” Gill.
