Leonard Horace Dickerson, Sr.

March 5, 1948 — January 7, 2025

Perry

Leonard Horace Dickerson, Sr., 76, went to be with the Lord on the morning of Tuesday, January 7, 2025, after an extended illness. Leonard is now in the presence of Jesus and free from pain with a renewed body in Heaven.

Born on March 5, 1948, in Thomaston, Georgia, he was the son of the late James Jackson Dickerson, Sr. and Susie Belle Cook Dickerson. Leonard was raised in Zebulon, Georgia, where he graduated from Pike County High School in 1966. While a student at Pike, he excelled as a baseball player.

Leonard started his career on Robins Air Force Base before joining the United States Navy in 1967. He honorably served in the military for four years during the Vietnam War. Leonard was stationed aboard the “USS Kitty Hawk,” serving in Fighter Squadron VF1-14 and Fighter Squadron VF-121, where he would troubleshoot and repair electronic components on F4-J aircraft.

After Leonard’s miliary service in 1971, he continued to serve his country through his work at Robins Air Force Base, where he worked in electronics and later software. Leonard’s expertise and innovation were instrumental in his field, and he retired from Robins Air Force Base in 2005 after many years of service.

Leonard’s life was centered around his family. He met his beloved wife, Pam while working on Robins Air Force Base. On January 8, 1994, they became happily married and together they shared many joyful years. The couple enjoyed traveling across the United States in their camper while exploring places like Key West and Branson, Missouri.

Leonard's love for his family knew no bounds. He was a devoted father, particularly involved in the life of his son, Lenny. Leonard coached all of Lenny's sports teams and was always there to encourage him through every endeavor. He believed that a friend of Lenny’s was a friend of his, and he treated all those he met with kindness and support. As a leader in the Boy Scouts, he was a proud member of the Order of the Arrow.

An avid outdoorsman, Leonard also loved hunting, fishing, gardening, working in the yard, and visiting the ocean. A talented woodworker, his craftsmanship was evident in all his projects, and he had a knack for tinkering and fixing anything that came his way. Leonard believed in the power of perseverance and creativity.

Strong in his faith, Leonard was a long-time member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and deeply involved in his community. He volunteered in numerous capacities, including working in the church’s sound booth and cutting their grass, as well as helping wherever there was a need, particularly in supporting elderly members of the church. For the past several years, Leonard enjoyed being a member of Houston Lake Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his brother, James J. Dickerson, Jr., and sister, Patricia Anne Dickerson.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 31 years, Pamela Ann Mullis Dickerson of Perry; son, Leonard “Lenny” Dickerson, Jr. of Macon; stepson, Robert House of Warner Robins.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Houston Lake Baptist Church with a funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Afterward, a graveside committal service will take place at 3:00 p.m. in Fincher Memorial Cemetery, in Meansville, Georgia.
