Lester E. “Les” Scarborough, 80, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2002, after a lengthy illness. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 23 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm on Sunday, September 22, in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 9:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Sacred Heart Building Fund, 250 S. Davis Drive, Warner Robins, 31088.
Mr. Scarborough, a native of Johnson County, Georgia, was the son of former Warner Robins Police Chief Leo Franklin Scarborough and Elizabeth Snell Scarborough, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and the recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat in the South Pacific. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret J. Scarborough, Warner Robins; sons, Gary L. Scarborough, Macon; Terry M. Scarborough, Warner Robins; daughters, Mary Yawn, Crestview, FL; Kathy Halat, Byron; and Margery “Cookie” Rogers, Byron. Mr. Scarborough is also survived by four grandsons and two granddaughters.
