Levis Aldine, L.A., “Buster” McConnell, Jr. passed away Monday, November 15, 2021.
Buster, a longtime resident of Houston County, was a 1961 graduate of Warner Robins High School. A member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, he graduated from the University of Georgia in 1965 and UGA Law School in 1969. There he was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. He became a member of the Georgia Bar Association in 1970. He practiced law privately for a number of years before being elected Houston County State Court Judge in 1984. He was appointed Houston County Superior Court Judge by Governor Joe Frank Harris in 1986. When he retired from the Houston County Superior Court Judge position in 1995, Buster went on to serve as Senior Court Judge where he served counties all over the state of Georgia.
Involved in the community, Buster was a member of the Noon Optimist Club and named Outstanding Young Man by the Warner Robins Jaycees. In 1980, he was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year for Service by the Warner Robins Board of Realtors. Buster was instrumental in the establishment of the Warner Robins American Red Cross and acknowledged by them for his service. He served at one point as the President of the Civilian Section of the Air Force Association and President of the WRHS Touchdown Club. He also coached Little League baseball, and Warner Robins Recreation Department football and basketball. One of his last acts as Houston County Superior Court Judge was to sign the court order for the new Houston County Court House in Perry. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA.
He was the son of the late L.A. McConnell, Sr. and Cammie Sue (Scarborough) McConnell, and brother to the late Wayne McConnell. Buster is survived by his wife Judy Dean McConnell, two sons: L.A. “Al” McConnell III (Melinda) of Milton, GA, Holmes Wade McConnell of Warner Robins, a stepdaughter, Dawn Thexton (Jay) of Pleasant Grove, Utah, grandchildren: Hayden McConnell, Matthew McConnell, Kayla McConnell, Ian McConnell, Ariel Dolinar, Jeremiah Thexton, Jaron Thexton, Jaedon Thexton and great grandchildren, Daphne Dolinar and Jack Dolinar.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021 at First Baptist Church, Warner Robins. The funeral service will begin immediately following visitation at the church. Reverend Glynn Grantham and Reverend Chad Wood will officiate. Buster will be laid to rest at Magnolia Park Mausoleum.
