Linda Jean Foster, a beloved teacher, sharp-witted friend, and cherished mentor, passed away on October 12, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on April 10, 1948, Linda's journey through life was marked by her passion for education, her love of humor, and her vibrant spirit.
A proud graduate of Hawkinsville High School in 1966, Linda went on to earn her teaching degree from Georgia Southern University. Her career began at Tabor Junior High as a student teacher, but it was at Warner Robins High School, where she taught English from 1978 to 2002, that she truly made her mark. Linda had a particular passion for Shakespeare, delighting her students with the timeless romance of Romeo and Juliet, and she inspired countless young minds through her engaging lessons on To Kill a Mockingbird.
After her tenure at Warner Robins, Linda continued to share her love of teaching as a continuing education instructor at Georgia Military College. She further enriched her credentials by earning a master’s degree from the University of Georgia, all while maintaining her dry sense of humor that kept students and colleagues alike entertained.
Linda had a lifelong love or wordplay and enjoyed exchanging pointed barbs with those close to her. She enjoyed playing board games, almost as much as she enjoyed winning. A game was always a good opportunity to gather friends, family, and good humor.
Linda's quick wit and passion for games were truly legendary. She took great joy in outsmarting her brother during board game nights, often reminding him that victory tasted sweeter than the best of jokes. She was also known for her butterfly pins, wearing a different one to school every day, a testament to her bright personality.
Active in her church, Warner Robins First United Methodist Church, Linda was a vibrant member of the singles group. She enjoyed hosting events and game nights at her home. Linda cherished her friendships and loved dining out, and exploring new restaurants with her circle of friends. She also had a deep affection for collecting antiques that carried sentimental value for her family.
A long-time board member of the Warner Robins Little Theatre, Linda's spirit was as vibrant as the butterfly pins she often wore. Her love of travel allowed her to create beautiful memories with friends, enriching her life and those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Lavine Foster; brother, Louis Lawson Foster; sister-in-law, Willene Wimberly Foster; and niece, Mary Claire Foster.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her nephew, David Foster of Hawkinsville, Georgia; niece, Wimberly Quay (Andy) of Ormond Beach, Florida; and great-nephews, Zach Quay of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Alex Quay of Orlando, Florida.
Visitation will be on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Warner Robins First United Methodist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. Afterward, Linda will be laid to rest privately in Orange Hill Cemetery.
