Linda Smithers entered into eternal rest peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2025, following a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Hazlehurst, Georgia, on August 26, 1948, Linda was the beloved daughter of the late L.M. “Red” Smith and Mary Lois Carter Smith. A woman of deep faith, and strong character, Linda touched countless lives with her warmth and kindness.
She earned her master’s degree in business education from the University of Georgia and dedicated many years of her life to teaching at Middle Georgia Technical College. She inspired numerous students to grow and succeed until her well-earned retirement.
Linda shared a beautiful life with her late husband, Mr. Bob Smithers, with whom she traveled extensively and made cherished memories. She was an avid reader who found joy in a good book. A devoted and longtime member of Central Baptist Church, Linda especially loved singing in the church choir, all of whom she considered family. She will be remembered most for her deep love—for her family, her church community, and her friends.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Eugene Smithers, Sr.
Her memory will be treasured by her siblings, Dale Thompson (James) of Argentina, Charles “Randy” Smith (Algena) of Hazlehurst, Georgia, and Regina “Gina” Kirby (Ron) of Spartanburg, South Carolina; as well as several beloved nieces, nephews; and stepson, Rob Smithers (Jill) of Largo, Florida; other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m. Linda Smithers will be laid to rest privately in Andersonville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given in memory of Linda to the Central Baptist Church Music Ministry, 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
