On the afternoon of Monday, October 17, 2016, Jerry Evans was summoned by God to His heavenly home. He was 77 years old.
Jerry was born to the late Roosevelt Evans and Imogene Evans Walsh in Kokomo, Indiana on July 3, 1939. He grew up and graduated high school in Kokomo and went on to graduate from the University of Cincinnati in 1962. Following his college career, Mr. Evans proudly made the decision to join the United States Air Force to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He retired from the military in 1990 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
While serving in the Air Force, Jerry satisfied his constant yearning for knowledge by earning a Master's Degree from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California. After his military retirement, he started work at Support Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) on November 5, 1990 as a program manager until ultimately retiring on May 31, 2007.
Mr. Evans truly loved and lived his life by example always putting faith and family first. His legacy of faith was demonstrated when at his passing, his granddaughter, Madison, stated that she wasn't worried about Grandpa because she knew that he was in Heaven. He was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church since 1980 where he held various positions. Jerry served as a Deacon, finance officer, and teacher for Awana. He was also a well-respected Sunday School teacher for many age groups, most recently for the men's class. Already greatly missed by his family and friends, Jerry leaves behind his legacy of love, kindness, faith, and understanding with all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Chesnut Evans in June 2002.
His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife, Linda Tedder Evans of Warner Robins; children, Brett Evans, his wife, Tammy, and their children, Presli, Ansli, Andrew, Meckli, Anthony, Layni, and Aiden, all of Kathleen; Blake Evans, his wife, Sheree, and their children, Madison, Megan, Colby, and Kayla, all of Canton; Kelley Brack, her husband, Jamie, and their daughter, Chrystal, all of Macon; and Jamie Cavender, her husband, Eddie, and their children, Gage and Reese, all of Macon; stepfather, Michael J.
