John S. Sorrells, 68, entered into rest on Thursday, September 18, 2014.
John was born on November 20, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from South West Texas State College with a Bachelor of Business Administration. John made the decision to serve our country in the United States Air Force during which he served during the Vietnam War. For his heroism in Vietnam, he received numerous military awards and decorations, including being nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor. He went on to graduate with a Master's Degree in Systems and Logistics from the Air Force Institute of Technology. John furthered his military education with Squadron Officers School, Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, and the National Defense Security Management Course.
During his tenure with the Air Force, John held various positions including: Construction Project Management Officer, Director of Logistics Management, Deputy Commander, IG Inspector, and retired as Chief, Logistics Division HQ Joint Military Medical Command. Following his military career, he worked civil service at Robins Air Force Base as Project Manager and Community Resource Developer and finally retired as a Project Software Manager.
Outside of work, his love and passion was his farm and animals.
John's father, William Sorrells, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Joy Sorrells of Fort Valley; mother, Mary Joyce Sorrells of Rochester, New York; brothers, Bill Sorrells of Rochester, New York and Dan Sorrells, Somerville, Alabama; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 23, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
