On the evening of Wednesday, December 21, 2016, Ray Sledge reunited with his beloved wife, Louise Sledge in heaven. He was 88.
Ray was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to the late Warner and Anna Sledge on February 22, 1928. He was a 26-year United States Air Force Veteran who valiantly served his country in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Ray proudly retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Ray had a huge heart and was a tireless servant to his community. He enjoyed being a past director of the Happy Hour Training Center, a past member of the Noon Optimist Club and of the National Retired Officers Association. Ray was also a devoted member of Warner Robins Church of Christ. In his free time, he loved tinkering with machinery and electronics, but spending time with family was his favorite pastime.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Louise Sledge; son, Kenneth Wayne Sledge; sister, Lois Sledge; and brother, Norman Sledge.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving children, Patti Lynn Davis (Steve) of Bonaire and Donald Ray Sledge of Prescott, Arizona; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Mary Sledge of Tennessee.
A memorial service with Full Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27th in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Minister Tim Childs will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Ray Sledge to the Warner Robins Church of Christ, 1947 Watson Blvd, Warner Robins, GA 31093.
