Russell W. Myers, Lt Colonel, USAF (Ret), of Warner Robins, Georgia, passed peacefully on Friday, June 22, 2018 in Suffolk, Virginia.
Colonel Myers was an Air Force navigator, entering the service in 1942 and retiring from the United States Air Force at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia in 1971. During his first few years of service, he flew many long and perilous missions in the Pacific during WWII as a navigator on B29 aircraft. After retiring from the Air Force, Colonel Myers taught mathematics at Perry Junior High School, retiring in 1980.
Both he and his wife, Mae, were originally from Pennsylvania, and were married there in 1944. The family lived in many places during his Air Force career, eventually settling in Warner Robins in 1971. Colonel Myers lived there until March of 2018, when he moved into an assisted living facility in Suffolk, Virginia, near to his son, Charles.
Colonel Myers is survived by his daughter, Ginny of Atlanta; and sons, Charles of Chesapeake, Virginia, Russell Jr. of Bellport, New York, Robert of Dover, Delaware, and Richard of Oakland, California; and his sister, Evelyn Weyant of Ardara, Pennsylvania.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 South Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins. A ceremony with Military Honors for Colonel Myers will be held in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2018. He will be interred together with his wife of 73 years, Mae Myers at Grandview Cemetery in North Versailles, Pennsylvania at a later date.
