Lt Col William Roy Kunkel, Usaf (Ret)

January 23, 1921 — December 6, 2012

William Roy Kunkel, 91, entered into rest on Thursday, December 6, 2012.

Roy was born on January 23, 1921 in Garrison, North Dakota. He graduated from Lake Worth Community High School in Lake Worth, Florida and from Palm Beach Junior College with an Associate's Degree. Roy went on to proudly serve as a pilot in the United States Air Force during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam Era. He received a Bronze Star and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

A tireless servant to his community, Roy was involved in several organizations including Tyrian Masonic Lodge #111, Scottish Rite Macon Valley and Al Sihah Shriners. He was a past Grand Patron for the State of Georgia, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Martha Berry Chapter #351. He was also active with Sojourners and Order of the Daedalians. Of the Presbyterian faith, his church home was Westminster Presbyterian Church. His loving wife of sixty-seven years, Janetta "Nita" Sanders Kunkel; son, RDML Kurt Lance Kunkel, SC, USN; and parents, John Alfred Kunkel, Sr. and Emma Neuenschwander Kunkel, preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his daughters, Konni Kunkel Atwood (Ray), Somersworth, NH, Karyn Kunkel Peskosky (Mike), Charlotte, NC, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Ashe Kunkel, Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Hank (Madeline), Becki (Ben), John, Nick, Stefanie, Nic, Veronica, Emma and Sara; and great-grandchildren, William and Ethan.

Visitation will be Friday, December 14, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in McCullough Funeral Home Chapel with entombment following in Magnolia Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that donations be made to the Masonic Children's Home, P.O. Box 4183, Macon, GA 31208.
