Lula Williamson Stitt

Lula Stitt died on December 1, 2004. She was born on December 2, 1917 to parents Thomas Hamilton Williamson and Lula Green. She was married to the late Paul Jones Stitt for 35 years. She was the last child in a family of nine children, who predeceased her, including: Corbett, Felton, Tom, Earnest, Harvey, Myrtle, Ruth and Tommie. She had lived all of her life in Macon and Warner Robins, where she had many friends. She lived the past five years in Jacksonville, Florida, due to illness.

She graduated from Mount De Sales Academy in Macon and from Bessie Tift College. A dedicated and beloved teacher, she taught elementary school for 30 years influencing the lives of many students. She began teaching at Fort Hawkins School in Macon and retired from Lindsey Elementary in Warner Robins. Lula was a past President of the Retired Teachers Association of Houston County. Until moving to Jacksonville, she was an active member of Second Street Baptist Church in Warner Robins.

Survivors include: sisters-in law, Margaret Williamson, (Corbett) and Jean Stitt, brother-in-law, Dan Stitt (Mary). Known as “Aunt Susie” to her many nieces and nephews who are: Tommy Williamson (Beverly), Faye Cobb (Terry), Judy Grandy (Frank), Toby Williamson (Fran), Dot Levin, Robert Hurley (Harriett), Ruth Hurley Nicholson, Margaret Shellenberger (Robert), Barbara Williamson (John Campbell) and Tony Stitt, Jim Paul Stitt, Rual Gutierrez and Elisa Gutierrez. She also has numerous great nieces and nephews.

Visitation services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2004 from 1-2:30 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home and Graveside services at 3 p.m. at Magnolia Park.

Based on her love of animals and her passion for education, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local Humane Society or Learn to Read agency.
