James H. Carter, Jr., 73, won his long fight against Alzheimer's disease on August 6, 2008. Mr. Carter was born on December 14, 1934, in Richmond, Virginia. He served his country with pride and honor as a U.S. Air Force pilot, serving three tours of duty in Vietnam. He rose to the rank of Major retiring after twenty years of service. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC); the Air Medal with 17 OLCs (three with V for Valor); the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross; the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. He was also a member and officer in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Order of Daedelians and a mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. Carter, Sr. and Hazel Walker Carter, and sister, Ida Paige Carter. Survivors are his wife, Dianne Carter; daughters, Donna Kiblinger, Tennessee, Suzanne Andrade (Rick), California, Debra Carter, California, and Stacey Herrera (Mario), Macon; grandchildren Sebrina Kiblinger, Tennessee, Nicolas James Herrera and Liliana Herrera; brother, Earl "Boots" Carter (Carol), Peachtree City; and nephew Adam Carter (Catie), Auburn, Alabama.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 10, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2008, at Pelham City Cemetery in Pelham. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Woodfield Academy, 4375 Rivoli Drive, Macon GA 31210, a school dedicated to the education of special needs children.
