Major Frank Joseph Rossi, Usaf (Ret.)

Frank Joseph Rossi, 88, entered into rest on Monday, June 5, 2023.


Frank was born on June 16, 1934, in Newark, New Jersey to the late John and Carmella Rossi. Frank enlisted in the Unites States Air Force, entered cadet training, and graduated as a Second Lieutenant at which time he earned his Navigator Wings and later, his Missileer Badge. He bravely served his country during the Vietnam War. His awards and decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Combat Readiness Medal. Frank was a very quiet man with a serious sense of family and civic duty. His favorite past times were bowling and a game of golf with friends. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Frank was active in Cub Scouts and his children’s sports activities, never missing a game unless he was on alert or flying. Frank was a member of Friends of Sapelo Island. He volunteered many leave hours to help maintain the Maritime Forest and planted many oak trees. He retired from Anchor Glass in 1998.


In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill, Joe, John, and Ida.


His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 63 years, Lurline; children, Frank J. Rossi, Jr. (Debra) of Odenton, Maryland, John Rossi of Warner Robins, Georgia, Michael Rossi of Marietta, Georgia, and Julie Ann Rossi of Warner Robins, Georgia; and granddaughter, Megan Nicole Rossi of Oxon Hill, Maryland.


Visitation will be Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Immediately following visitation, join the family for friendship and fellowship at The Farmhouse at McCullough Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Magnolia Park Cemetery, where Frank will be laid to rest.
