Margaret J. Scarborough

October 1, 1922 — March 27, 2016

Befitting her gentle and loving devotion to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, Margaret J. Scarborough, 93, of Warner Robins, Ga., left this world on the wings of GOD'S sweetest angels. Awaiting her arrival in Heaven her beloved husband of 55 years, Lester E. Scarborough, who departed this life on September 19, 2002.

Mrs. Scarborough was born on October 1, 1922 in Hector, Minnesota. Her childhood years were spent on the farm with her brothers and sisters and she graduated from Hector High School in the Class of 1940. After graduation, she joined the military, serving in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and was among the first to occupy a seat as a stenographer in the newly built Pentagon in Washington D.C. It was in Washington D.C. that she met her husband Lester E. Scarborough who was in the U.S. Navy working at the Navy Department.

After WWII and following their military service, the Scarborough's moved to Georgia and were employed on Robins Air Force Base where they both retired from Civil Service. Mrs. Scarborough was the personal Secretary of the Director of Material Management, Mr. Hal Cotton, throughout her Civil Service career where she received numerous awards for efficiency. As a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warner Robins, from it's infancy, she enjoyed singing in the Church Choir in the early days, and over the years her children took great pride in the ability to hear their mother's voice rising above all others.

A devoted mother, Mrs. Scarborough was always an inspiration to her children and was a steadfast mentor to them of the principles of good citizenship as well as the Golden Rule and she encouraged them to make the most of every endeavor.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gary (Jane) Scarborough of Macon; Mary Yawn, of Crestview, Fla.; Terry Scarborough, of Kathleen, Ga.; Kathy (Matt) Halat of Byron, Ga.; and Margery "Cookie" Rogers of Kathleen, Ga.; and Mrs. Scarborough's grandchildren, Luke and Sarah Scarborough; Billy and Kristen Miles; and Mark and Kevin (Audrey) Scarborough.

The family was blessed by Mrs. Geraldine Wallace who was Mrs. Scarborough's caregiver for nearly 10 years. Geraldine was unselfish in her devotion to Mrs. Scarborough's needs and her kindness and gentle nature will never be forgotten.

A special debt of gratitude is also extended to Compassionate Care Hospice whose attention to the comfort and care for Mrs. Scarborough was indeed a blessing.

The Rosary will be said with a visitation to follow on Thursday, March 31, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Following the mass, Mrs. Scarborough will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery next to her beloved husband, the late Lester E. Scarborough.
