Margaret Champion passed away on July 7, 2013. She was born in Midway, Georgia, on May 17, 1924, to Jeneral Ernest Culver and Edna Grace (McCoy) Culver. Following the death of her mother, she spent most of her childhood years in the home of her aunt, Emma (Culver) Knight, and uncle, Arelious W. "Clinton" Knight in the East Lake neighborhood of Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she attended the Second Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Margaret graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga in 1942. She worked as a telephone operator during World War II, with assignments in Anniston, Alabama, and Miami, Florida. Returning to the Chattanooga area after the war, Margaret met and married Richard Champion in 1947. Career choices took them to Miami, Florida; Birmingham, Alabama; and New Orleans, Louisiana, before returning to Chattanooga in 1968. Following Richard's death, she moved to Warner Robins, Georgia to be near her son.
At various stages in her life Margaret enjoyed sewing, quilting, working in a bakery, and cooking some of her own favorite recipes. Her parents, her Aunt Emma and Uncle Clinton, her husband of 40 years, and two brothers, J.E. and George Culver, preceded her in death.
Margaret is survived by a son, Marvin Champion (Pam) of Warner Robins; sister, Annette Davis (Bobby) of Foley, Alabama.; two brothers, Clawes Culver (Barbara) of Rileyville, Virginia; and Doyle Culver of Oxford, Alabama; nieces; cousins; two grandsons, David Champion (Kaylea) and Stephen Champion (Katie); and two great-granddaughters.
