On Sunday, August 8, 2021, Marie Wofford Johnson went to be with her Lord and Savior in heaven. She was 78 years old.
Marie was born on March 26, 1943, in Canton, Georgia, to the late George W. and Gladys H. Wofford. She attended Chilhowee High School, earned her associates degree from Truett McConnell University, and graduated with her Bachelors Degree in Education at Georgia Southern University. Marie married her high school sweetheart, Butch Johnson on July 17, 1965, at Olive Springs Baptist Church. Together they traveled around the world while Butch served in the United States Air Force. While stationed in Germany and Greece, Marie taught for the Department of Defense. Returning to the states, the couple settled in Dublin, Georgia, where Marie retired from Bank of America as a Teller. In her spare time, she enjoyed singing in church choirs, listening to music, gardening, baking goodies to share with others, and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. Above all, Marie enjoyed traveling to the ocean and spending time with her family.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her adoring husband of 56 years, Loyes “Butch” H. Johnson; daughters, Susan Johnson Holmstrom (James Allen); Terri Lynn McClane (Morgan K.); grandchildren, Courtney Johnson Lechner (Michael); Karin Newberry Burd (T.J.); great-grandchildren, Olivia Jane Burd and Jack David Burd, due in December. As well as one great-grand puppy, “Riley Lechner.”
Visitation with Marie’s family will be Tuesday, August 10, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Pastor Art Fowler officiating.
