Marta Menendez Barroso

February 7, 1929 — October 9, 2021

Marta Menendez Barroso, age 92, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 9, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Marta was born on February 7, 1929 in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba to Mario C. Menendez and Maria M. Domingo y Morales del Castillo. She was the niece of Andres Domingo y Morales del Castillo, former President of Cuba. On May 6, 1954, she married Carlos H. Barroso at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Havana, Cuba. In attendance at her wedding were Cuban President and First Lady, Fulgencio and Marta Batista. After the start of the Communist Revolution in Cuba, Marta and Carlos fled Cuba in 1959. She became a proud citizen of the United States in 1971. Carlos and Marta lived in Cincinnati, Ohio; Staunton, Virginia; Atlanta and Toccoa, Georgia before settling in her beloved town of Warner Robins in 1970. Marta cherished her small town and the many wonderful friendships she made here. Marta was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 46 years.

Marta was a homemaker whose greatest joy was providing a loving home for her family. She greatly cherished the moments spent with her children and grandchildren, and lovingly spoiled each and every one of them. One of her greatest blessings was to care for her own mother for 28 years. Marta was a true prayer warrior and when family and friends needed prayers they often asked Marta to pray a rosary for them. Those prayers were always answered. She moved to Grayson, Georgia in 2016.

In addition to her husband of 57 years and parents, Marta was preceded in death by her two loving sons, Carlos and Mario, and grandson, John Martin, as well as her siblings, Mercedes Menendez, Mario Menendez, and Andres Menendez.

Left to cherish Marta’s memory are her son Andres Barroso (Angela); daughter Maria Butler (Jeffrey); daughters-in-law Barbara Barroso and Jackie Kilraine; and 11 grandchildren, Carlos (Amanda), Audrey, Joseph (Lacey), Matthew, Christopher, Olivia, Julia, Caroline, Nathaniel, Michael, and Mary Grace.

A rosary will be said at McCullough Funeral Home at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 11, 2021 with visitation following until 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Monsignor Fred Nijem and Deacon Jim Hunt will officiate. Marta will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens. For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live via the McCullough Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcculloughfuneralhome/live/.
