Martha Ann Bailey, 74, entered into the gates of heaven on Saturday, October 22, 2022.
Martha was born on April 28, 1948, in Talbotton, Georgia to the late Simon and Alice Miller Shipp. She attended Talbot County Highschool where she exceled in basketball, Beta club and cheerleading. Following graduation, Martha received her Bachelors’ degree from Georgia College and State University where she majored in French, and was a member of the National Honor Society, Dean’s List and the Who’s Who Student. With a love for education, Martha received her Masters’ degree in Early Childhood education and followed her passion for teaching. She taught French at Warner Robins Junior High and later taught early education at Russell Elementary and Lindsey Elementary until her retirement after many years of dedicated service to the Houston County Board of Education. Martha was an active member of Centerville United Methodist Church and volunteered with their food and clothing ministries. She enjoyed line dancing, water aerobics and walking. Martha lived with a servant’s heart and was always loving, caring and there to assist others. She was preceded in death by her sister, Charlotte Shipp, brother-in-law, Ed Palmer, and sister-in-law, Ann Bailey.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her devoted husband of fifty-two years, James W. Bailey, Sr.; son, James “Bo” W. Bailey, Jr. (Pamela Diaz); grandchildren, Gabriel Diaz and Marcelo Diaz; sisters, Sandra Palmer of Grayson and Gail Avery of Thomaston; brothers in law, Charles Bailey (Sherry) of Senoia and Joe Bailey (Carol) of Sharpsburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with Martha’s family will be Tuesday, October 25, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Talbotton, where Martha will be laid to rest.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Martha Ann Bailey to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at 3300 E. Sunrise Drive, Tucson, Arizona 85718, Human Society of Houston County at P.O.
