Martha "Virginia" Baker

February 4, 1937 — December 29, 2024

Warner Robins

Martha “Virginia” Baker, 87, entered into rest on Sunday, December 29, 2024.

Virginia was born on February 4, 1937, in Attapulgus, Georgia to the late John D. and Mattie L. Phelps. Virginia was not just a person but a presence, known for her vibrant personality and kindness. She had a passion for gardening that was evident in the beautiful blooms that adorned her yard. Her green thumb was matched only by her love for local sports; she was a dedicated fan of The Atlanta Falcons, The Atlanta Braves, and the Northside Eagles.

Her commitment to others was perhaps most prominently displayed through her involvement with the local T.O.P.S. Club #31, where she engaged in promoting health and wellness. Within that community, she shone as a beacon of support and motivation, earning accolades for her endeavors, including the prestigious title of "State Queen." This recognition was not just an award, but a testament to her tenacity and dedication to uplifting those around her, reminding us all of the strength that lies in community and friendship.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Philip “Phil” Russell Baker, and grandson, Stephen Dominy, twin brother, Jim Phelps, and brother, Robert Phelps.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Russell L. Baker (Mary) of Manchester, Tennessee, Sylvia Baker of Warner Robins, and Shannon E. Baker of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Gary Baker (Iantha) and Lori, Nathan, and Robby Baker; great-grandchildren, Alissa, Kayla, Heather, and Jenny Baker, Chad and Dylan Dwyer, and Lainey Jo Wilkes; sisters, Mary Helms and Carolyn Wickizer; many nieces and nephews; and close friends, Tom and Donna Walmer, Vickie Wasko, and Pam Henley.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, where Virginia will be laid to rest.
