Mary Ann was born in Sumter County, Georgia, to the late Hudson D. and Lillie Mae Burt. She moved to Wellston, Georgia, in order to leave country living and find the city living. Ms. Mary quickly found her place at Wellston Air Depot, where she not only found her 30-year career in contracting but also met her first husband, Clifford H. Jernigan. Clifford owned the 20th Century restaurant where Mary and other co-workers frequently ate lunch.
They fell in love and married in 1956. Together they started raising a family and both Mary and Clifford continued to succeed in their careers throughout their marriage until his passing in 1970.
In 1974, Mary married Ralph A. Johnson. Once she retired from the base, they traveled the world. She also spent as much time as possible working outside in her yard. Mary loved taking care of her plants and flowers.
The family of Mary would like to thank Visiting Angels of Warner Robins and especially caregivers, Shika Davis and Shay Chambers. As well as others too numerous to count for caring for Ms. Mary. Shika and Shay loved Ms. Mary and she loved them.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the Visiting Angels Foundation at www.visitingangelsfoundation.org.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford H. Jernigan and Ralph A. Johnson. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins, Georgia. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Caroline Jernigan, Clifford H. Jernigan, Jr., James P. Jernigan, III, Connie Faircloth, and Barbara Jernigan; grandchildren, Christopher, Connor, Jonathon, and Camryn Jernigan, and Joshua Stricklen (Paige); great-grandchildren, Rylan, Grayson, and Caden Stricklen.
