Mary Elizabeth McCommon entered into rest on Thursday, January 24, 2013.
Mrs. McCommon was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She was a member of Midway Methodist Church in Winder, Georgia. Mary began her college education at Young Harris and continued her education at the University of Georgia where she received her Masters of Education degree. Mary retired from the Houston County Board of Education after many years of dedicated employment as an Elementary School Teacher. Mary had a heart of gold and a sweet kindred spirit; loved teaching, and adored her students as much as they adored her. She loved traveling and spending time with her beloved family. Her parents, Dewey and Carrie Etheridge; and her sister, Reba Phillips, preceded her in death.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving and devoted husband, Robert McCommon; children, Ferrell Hall, Gainesville; Jeff McCommon (Melinda), Warner Robins; Mark McCommon (Michelle), Bonaire; Clay McCommon (Ann), Panama City, Florida; Lynn Hudspedth (Jerry), Marietta; Patricia Turner (William), Grantville; grandchildren, Michael and Kris Hall, Joshua and Kaylee McCommon, Rachel McCommon, several great grandchildren, nephew, Dr. Jones Phillips (Paula), Gainesville; and many other loving family members, friends, and former students.
Visitation will be Sunday evening, January 27, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 on Monday, January 28, 2013 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with entombment following in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.
