Mary Joe Tucker (née Goodman), 94, went to be with our Lord in Heaven on February 10, 2024. She was born June 6, 1929 to the late Joseph V. and Mary E. Goodman of Wetumpka, Alabama. She was the youngest of eight children and was preceded in death by her three sisters (Bernice, Geneva and Kathleen) and four brothers (Marvin, Charlie, Raymond and U.L.). Her childhood was spent in Wetumpka. Her adulthood was spent in part in Chicago IL and the surrounding area. She eventually returned to Alabama and then moved to Warner Robins, GA to marry her late husband Kenneth D. Tucker. She resided there until her death.
She was a hard worker and was dedicated to her family and home. She held numerous positions in industry to help support her family; at times working two jobs while she was a single parent to support herself and her daughter. She was self-educated and a quick learner. Her last position was as the manager of Laura’s Nutrition Shoppe. She thrived in this position and utilized her inheritance from her mother's Cherokee background and use of natural products to address sickness and healing. Even in her 90's she would go to her nutrition books to provide advice for friends and family in an effort to assist in their health and healing.
Following retirement she focused on taking care of her family and home. She loved filling her yard with flowers, trees and shrubs. She kept her yards and home immaculate. In later years she was saddened by her inability to continue her work outside. She was a great cook and her fried chicken, biscuits and cakes were loved by all. She credited most of her cooking skills to her late mother-in-law, Mary C. Turner of Tallassee, AL.
She is survived by her daughter Tamela J. Turner, granddaughter Jennifer L. Fuqua (Roy Lee III), great-granddaughter Elodie L. Fuqua, numerous nieces and nephews, and her precious poodle Dolly. The family is forever thankful to her chosen family: Mrs. Patcene Tharpe and Ms. Sandy Ealer, who spent countless hours visiting with and helping her in the last few years of her life. She will be deeply missed and forever treasured by her family and friends.
