Melvin Theo Scarborough

December 21, 1934 — April 12, 2021

A kind gentleman and devout Christian, Melvin Theo Scarborough, 86, joined the Lord in Heaven on Monday, April 12, 2021.

The son of the late J.W. Scarborough, Sr. and Emma Holland Scarborough, Melvin was born on December 21, 1934, in Eastman, Georgia. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant for four years before working on Robins Air Force Base as an Item Manager for an additional 30 years, retiring in 1987.

In 1958, Melvin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Centerville and had a servant’s heart; Melvin always enjoyed doing for others behind the scenes. He also enjoyed listening to Gospel music and watching television especially when the news, the Atlanta Braves, or any college sports were on. Melvin was also a member of both the Warner Robins and Centerville Senior Citizens Clubs. Most of all, Melvin loved his family and was a vital part of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. His sense of humor and gentle, sweet, and fun loving spirit will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Carolynne Wood Scarborough; brothers, J.W. Scarborough, Jr., Thomas Scarborough, and Don Scarborough. His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife of 14 years, Jean Scarborough of Centerville; daughters, Melva Lynn Layton (Sterling) of Byron; and Karen Vernon of Perry; stepdaughters, Tanya Brakhage (Dennis) of Savannah; Endia Sakhleh (Goo) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and Amber Jones (Jeff) of Carrollton; grandchildren, Matt Frazier of Byron; Mandy Oliver of Warner Robins; Jadie Shelton (Chad) of Perry; step-grandchildren, Seth Holt and Rachel Holt of Tampa, Florida; great-grandchildren, Brandon Frazier, Daemon Frazier; Jeremy Starr; Karissa Frazier, Stryder Shelton, Moriah Shelton, and Reeve Shelton; brothers, Marvin Scarborough and James Scarborough, both of Eastman; sisters, Louise Smisson (Wright) of Bonaire; Sherell Yawn of Warner Robins; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
