On the evening of Wednesday, April 26, 2017, Asia McLeod, Jr., 69, went to be with his Lord and Savior.
Asia was born on April 6, 1948 in Ozark, Alabama to the late Asia Sr. and Johnnie Mae McLeod. He later graduated from Carroll High School in Ozark and continued his education at Enterprise Junior College. Asia then joined the United States Army where he served in Operation Desert Storm. In April of 2008, he retired from the Army National Guard Reserve with the rank of Master Sergeant. During his years as a reservist, Asia also worked for Alabama Power Company, as a teacher at the local Trade School, and began his career in civil service. He later moved to Fort Valley and worked at Robins Air Force Base as an aircraft maintenance supervisor in C130 until his retirement after 42 years of service. Following his retirement, Asia worked for Groom Transportation then as a Bailiff for the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.
An aspiring farmer, Asia enjoyed working in his greenhouse, garden, and tending to his pecan and fruit trees. He also enjoyed cooking; every Friday night he would bring home flowers and cook fish for his adoring wife, Christine. Asia was a generous man who truly loved helping others and never met a stranger. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church 210 Garmon Street and a Mason. Asia loved to travel, however his greatest joy came from time spent with his beloved family and friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marqurite Baker.
His memory will forever be treasured by his is loving wife of 37 years, Christine Hargrove McLeod of Fort Valley; daughter, April L. Island (Tremaine) of Denver, Colorado; son, Asia Leon Amos McLeod III of Statesboro; siblings, Reverend Nelson McLeod (Sheila) of Ozark, Alabama; Marilyn Johnson of Huntsville, Alabama; Kenneth McLeod of Birmingham, Alabama; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and close friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017 at First Baptist Church 210 Garmon Street. Following the service, Asia will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery with full military honors.
