MSG Julian Shearouse, U.S. Army (Ret), 71, entered into rest on Saturday, December 31, 2011.
Julian was born on January 24, 1940 in Augusta, Georgia. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Vietnam Era. Before retiring from twenty-nine and a half years of service to his country, Julian obtained several medals, certifications, and commendations including: National Defense Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1st OLC), Vietnam Service (6 campaigns), Vietnam Campaign Medal, 4 O/S Bars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation (2d Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Driver's Badge, Army Commendation Medal (2d OLC), Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Vietnam Civil Action Meritorious Unit Citation, German Army Marksman Badge in Bronze, Sharpshooter (Rifle), and a Meritorious Service Medal.
Julian had lived in Middle Georgia for the past twenty years, and was a devoted member of Byron United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher. He was also a mentor with Alcoholics Anonymous and was involved in Kairos Prison Ministry. His wife, Carolyn Beverly Shearouse; and parents, Harold Chapman Shearouse and Mildred Hughes Shearouse, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Delores McDaniel, Harlem, Georgia, Barbara Jackson, Aiken, South Carolina, and JoAnn Watts (Bryan), Kathleen, Georgia; grandchildren, Christopher Shannon, Timothy Jackson, Colleen Browne, and Madison Martin; children by marriage, Allen, Jeffrey, Brian, and Curtis Shiley, and Amy Shiley Groover; and siblings, Sarah E. Shearouse, St. Simons, Georgia and John C. Shearouse (Margaret), Grovetown, Georgia.
Visitation will be Monday, January 2, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Byron United Methodist Church. Reverend Baxter Hurley will officiate.
