MSgt. David R. Getter, USAF (Ret.), 81, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.
David was born on July 31, 1934 in Groton, Connecticut to the late Kenard and Rae Getter. Shortly after his birth his family moved to Greendale, Wisconsin where he grew up. Upon graduating from high school, David enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served for 22 years, before retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He then continued his career as a teacher at Middle Georgia Technical College for 18 years. David was a Master Mason in Tyrian Lodge 111, and a 32nd Degree KCCH Scottish Rite Mason. He was also Adjutant Emeritus in Al Shiah Shrine Legions of Honor and South East Shrine Association Legions of Honor. David was a life-long member of the VFW.
Along with his parents, his first wife, June Loraine Getter; most recent wife, Sylvia Cione Getter; and brothers, Bob and Don Getter, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his step-children, Frank Gorman of Seminole, Florida and Alyce Windish of St. Petersburg, Florida; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and dear friend, Dan Kitchens.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough. In recognition of MSgt Getter's service to his country, the rendering of full military honors and Masonic Rites will conclude the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of MSgt. David R. Getter, USAF (Ret.) to the Shriners Children's Hospital, c/o Al Sihah Shrine, P.O. Box 3147 Macon, Ga. 31205.
