MSgt. Harrell Lee Strickland, USAF (Ret.), aged 86, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Houston Medical Center. He was born on August 24, 1937, in Cairo, Georgia, the son of the late Albert Quince and Nelda Harrell Strickland.
With pride and honor, Harrell served his country in the United States Air Force during the challenging period of the Vietnam War. He displayed a remarkable commitment throughout his military career, ultimately retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. After his retirement from active duty, Harrell continued to serve his country as a Civil Service employee. His final years in Civil Service were as an Equipment Specialist and Program Manager within the Special Operations Forces Directorate. In total, Harrell served his country for nearly 42 years.
Beyond his professional life, Harrell found solace in his outdoor pursuits, including hunting and fishing. He also shared his leisurely walks with his pet dog, "Snooky." Harrell’s warm and welcoming personality meant he never met a stranger, and leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Harrell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Olivia Edwina Strickland, and daughter, Theresa Ann Strickland.
Harrell is survived by his children, Tammy Ann Strickland Mimbs (Steve) of Warner Robins; James Allen Strickland (Tammy) of Bonaire; grandchildren, Brandon Mimbs (Kaleigh), Casie Rene Mimbs Cutaia (Josh), all of Perry; great-grandchildren, Bryton Lee, Olivia Faith, Sofia Grace, Dixie Hope, and Grayson River Cutaia; brother, Roger Strickland (Sylvia); sisters, Mary Jo Gowan and Jean Hurst; as well as other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, November 13, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring the life of Harrell will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Harrell will be laid to rest privately in Andersonville National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
