Hugh H. Vance, Jr., 85, joined his Lord and Savior in heaven on the morning of Thursday, April 20, 2017.
Mr. Vance was born on August 1, 1931 in Tampa, Florida to the late Hugh H. Vance, Sr. and Fairy Lee Maxey Newcomer Vance. Mr. Vance was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served his country faithfully during both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Following his military career, Mr. Vance retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base. A faithful member of Westside Baptist Church, he served as the Minister of Music for a number of churches in the middle Georgia area. Mr. Vance was a skilled woodworker, electrician, and all around handyman. An avid collector of all things related to M&Ms, he also loved pulling a good joke on his friends.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 38 years, Marilyn Ward Vance of Warner Robins; three daughters, Laura E. Mygrant of Byron, Joanna C. Thompson (Philip) of Decatur, AL, Lori Smith of Surf City, NC; and grandchildren, Matthew McLellan, Michael McLellan, Nick Wiatrek, A. J. Wiatrek, William Smith, Ben Smith, Jonathan Smith, Jacob Smith, and Seth Smith.
Visitation with Mr. Vance's family will be Friday, April 21, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Westside Baptist Church with Stan Henson, Rev. Steve Britt, and Rev. Chuck Lewis officiating. Following the service, Mr. Vance will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Mausoleum with full military honors. The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 886 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201.
