John Edwin Phillips, age 82, walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the morning of Friday, April 14, 2023. He is gone but will never be forgotten.
John was born in Gainesville, GA on October 11, 1940, the son of the late Frank David and Sarah Herring Phillips. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Air Force and retired having attained the rank of Master Sergeant. John worked for 18 months with Lockheed Martin in Saudi Arabia following his military retirement. Then, he continued service to his country while working in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base from where he also retired. When John wasn’t hard at work, you could find him square dancing, bowling or participating in The Walk to Emmaus. Trinity United Methodist was his church home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Carroll.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rhea Houck Phillips; daughters, Jackie Thames (Kasey) and Cindy Davis; grandchildren, David, Betsy, Bobby, Josh, Carter and Sarah; nine great-grandchildren; brother, David Phillips; and sisters, Mary Wergin and Martha Adams.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. John will be laid to rest with a graveside service in Magnolia Park Cemetery on Monday, April 17, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of John to your favorite charity.
