MSgt. Joseph H. Piper, Ret, USAF, died Sunday, October 6, 2002 at his residence. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 9 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00 until 9:00 pm Tuesday at McCullough Funeral Home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be given to Hospice of Houston County, 2066 Watson Boulevard, Warner Robins, Georgia, 31093.
Mr. Piper was born in Ocilla, Georgia. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, Merchant Marine Corp, and Army Air Force. He served his country in both World War II and Vietnam. He was retired from the Air Force with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was also retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base where he had worked in the Functional Test Division. He was a Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and the Al Sihah Shrine Temple. He was a Shrine Clown and had the nickname “Candy Man”. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. His wife of 54 years, Catherine H. Piper; son, Robert D. Piper; and his parents, William Edgar Emmett Piper and Carrie Bell Piper, preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are the following brothers and sisters: Edgar Piper, Emmett Piper, Ernest Piper, Floyd Piper, Linus Piper, Malone Piper, Emma Jean Wright, Mary Grace Ewings, James William Piper, and Mattie Ruth Piper.
He is survived by two sons and their wives, James L. and Pam Piper, and Floyd E. and Peggy Piper, all of Warner Robins. Also surviving him are nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
