Larry Denny, born on November 26, 1936 in Danville, VA to the late Jessie and Ethel Cross Denny, passed away at home on Sunday, August 14, 2022.
Raised in Danville, Larry graduated from Danville High School and proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his 25-year career in the military, he worked in airplane maintenance and was stationed at various locations including in Warner Robins, Maine, the Philippines and finally in Biloxi, MS. Larry returned to Warner Robins to pursue a career in Civil Service at Robins AFB where he worked in Supply Retention for 18 years. His evenings were kept busy by working at Belk in the evenings.
When Larry wasn’t hard at work, you could find him worshiping the Lord and fellowshipping at Central Baptist Church. He was naturally athletic and loved boxing and playing basketball in his Air Force days. Larry also excelled in bowling and softball. He was a member of several bowling leagues and national softball travel leagues over the years; he played softball until he was 80 years old and was often named MVP! Larry also had a soft spot for hunting, especially deer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Helen A. Denny; and his sisters, Lorraine Hutchingson and Marie Davis.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Leslie McCarty (Chris) of Denver, NC, Lorianne Sandstrom (Dennis) of King, NC, Lynn Pope (Ricky) of Perry, GA, Larry Denny (Jamie) of Port Charlotte, FL and Chip Denny of KY; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, with Dr. Owen Bozeman officiating. Larry will be laid to rest next to Helen in Magnolia Park Mausoleum after the service.
