Msgt Richard A. Jonda, Usaf (Ret.)

Richard Jonda, 73, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 6, 2016, following a lengthy illness.

Richard was born on December 11, 1942 in Struthers, Ohio to the late Andrew and Mary Busonik Jonda. A 1960 graduate of Struthers High School, Richard lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He carried fond memories of his high school days with him throughout his life. With great pride and honor he served in the United States Navy for 5 years before serving in the United States Air Force for 16 years. During this time he served in the Vietnam War and on recruiting duty in Youngstown, Ohio, where he met his beloved wife, Rosemary. They were married on October 9, 1971. Richard retired from the Air Force with the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his active duty career, he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service retiring after 19 years as a Maintenance Clerk. Richard was an active member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona, Florida for 30 years. He loved to watch and play golf, care for his lawn and garden, and cheer for The Ohio State Buckeyes. However, his greatest joy was found in family and most particularly in being an adoring "Papa" to his seven beloved grandchildren.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 44 years, Rosemary Dougherty Jonda of Kathleen, Georgia; daughter, Andrea Terry (Jonathan) of Warner Robins, Georgia; son, Bill Jonda (Calyn) of Bonaire. Georgia; grandchildren, Lorea Anne Kaiser (Jon), McKenzie Terry, Daniel Jaxon, Jadyn Terry, Chase Terry, Mya Jonda, Elizabeth Jonda; brothers, Ronald Jonda (Eileen) of Struthers, Ohio and Randall Jonda (Carol) of Longwood, Florida; as well as several other beloved family members.

A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Another memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Christ Our Savior at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Struthers, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Richard Jonda to Homestead Hospice, 500 Osigian Boulevard, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
