May 13, 1948 — February 10, 2022

MSgt. Richard “Fig” Newton, USAF (Ret.), 73, passed away at Hazel Colson Hospice House on Thursday, February 10, 2022.
The son of the late Evelyn Dorothy Wittchow Newton, Richard was born on May 13, 1948, in Abington, Pennsylvania. Raised in Winter Haven, Florida, he later moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Mount Greylock High School. In June of 1966, he enlisted in the United States Air Force at the young age of 18. Richard proudly served for 20 years as an Electronics Technician for the B-52 and B-1 Bombers until he retired in June of 1986. After retiring from the military, he opened his own home remodeling business. He went on to work at Robins Air Force Base. After his second retirement, he served as a contractor for several more years. Richard was truly a jack of all trades and a wonderful handyman. He was also a member of the American Legion and enjoyed being outside during his free time.

In addition to his mother, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald William Newton.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sarah Ruth Newton of Centerville; children, Joseph Newton of Centerville; and Richard Newton (Catharine) of Merritt Island, Florida; grandchildren, Aaron Newton (Marissa), Noah Newton, Alex Newton (Madison), Zachary Newton, Nathan Newton, and Maddie Newton; great-grandchild, Thomas Newton; and sister, Sharon Ann Steele (Lee) of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
