Myrtis Christine Byrd Finney, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at the Phoenix at Lake Joy in Warner Robins.
Mrs. Finney was the daughter of the late Charlie Thomas and Beatrice Arrowsmith Byrd. A Middle Georgia native, Mrs. Finney was born in Byron on April 13, 1932, and raised in Fort Valley. She later lived in Jacksonville, Florida, from 1965 until 1983 before returning to the Middle Georgia area to make Centerville her home.
Mrs. Finney worked in support of the United States Navy and the United States Air Force as a civilian. She retired after 30 years of service and then worked an additional 10+ years in private industry.
A woman of faith, Mrs. Finney was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and attended Centerville United Methodist Church where she was involved in various groups. She was also the caretaker of her son, Thomas Charlie Finney, who became paralyzed after a tragic motorcycle accident. She made sure her son was still able to enjoy sports, especially bowling, tennis, baseball, and swimming. Mrs. Finney will be remembered as a devoted wife, a dedicated mother and grandmother, great-grandmother, and a faithful Christian. She will be tremendously missed by all.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Finney was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Collins Finney; her oldest son, Thomas Charlie Finney; siblings, Helen B. Morris, Katherine Elizabeth Johnson and baby brother, Tommie Lee Byrd.
Mrs. Finney leaves behind a son, Russell M. Finney Sr. (Katherine); grandchildren, Russell Jr. (Linda); Jennifer (Lloyd), and Kristina (Nicholas); great-grandchildren, David, Jacob, Wyatt; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation with Mrs. Finney’s family will be Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Centerville United Methodist Church. The funeral service celebrating her life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Centerville United Methodist Church. Following the service, Mrs. Finney will be laid to rest in Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in honor of Myrtis Christine Byrd Finney to the United Methodist Church of Centerville Food Pantry, 600 N. Houston Lake Blvd., Centerville, Georgia 31028. All donations will go to help feed families during the holiday season.
