Myrtle Butler, 95, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.
Myrtle was born on October 14, 1928, in Rhine, Georgia to the late Stanley and Bessie Reaves Whittington. She grew up in Milan, Georgia where after school, she helped at the family farm. During World War II, she worked on Robins Air Force Base as well as at the Manhattan Shirt Factory in Americus, Georgia. Once she turned 17, she married her sweetheart, Waymon, and together, they started at family. In 1954, the family relocated to Warner Robins, Georgia. Family was everything to her; she was the most wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Myrtle was a skilled seamstress, sewing anything from Waymon’s suits and shirts to friends’ wedding dresses. Gardening was a point of pride and joy for Myrtle. She collected rocks from all over and had beautiful flowers and a rock garden that she took great care of. In her free time, she could be found doing puzzles, fishing, and camping in the mountains. Her sweet countenance will be deeply missed by those she held most dear.
In addition to her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Waymon Daniel Butler and her siblings, her twin, Myrtice Shremshock, Aline Thompson, Eldis Dowdy, Bessie Whittington, Raymond Whittington, and James Whittington.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her daughter, Susan Daphine Ray (Richard) of Bonaire, GA; grandchildren, Brandi Hamann of Bonaire, GA, and Tracie Ray Falzone (Sal) of Warner Robins, GA, great-grandchildren, Camden, Dominic, and Alivia; sister, Shirley Ussery of Milan, GA; stepdaughter, Shirley Henderson Yaw of Norcross, GA; and step grandchildren, Angie Murdock of Boston, MA, and Hugh Henderson of Norcross, GA.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Myrtle will be laid to rest next to her husband in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.
