Nell H. Tallant

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Nell Tallant, quietly passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the age of 81. She was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 45 years, Foster Tallant, her parents, Jesse and Mary Lou Hitchcock, and other loved ones who had gone before.

Born on August 6, 1941 in Cordele, GA, Nell was an ambitious young woman from the start and flourished at whichever endeavor she took on. She was an excellent basketball player in high school, and also at Mercer University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Nell led an inspiring 25-plus year career in teaching at Bibb County School System and Houston County Board of Education having retired from Huntington Middle School in Warner Robins. She was an avid learner and continued furthering her education for her entire life. It was evident to everyone Nell knew, that she genuinely loved each one of her students over the years.

Although she was an excellent teacher, Nell was an even better mother to her five children. She was caring, yet feisty, independent, and assertive, which made the lessons she taught her children and her students even more memorable. In earlier years, Nell enjoyed walking and playing tennis in her free time. In more recent years, spending time with her cats and family was what brought her the most joy in life.

Nell’s memory will forever be treasured by her loving children, Mitchell Tallant (Terri) of Savannah, Mark Tallant (Susan) and Kris Garner (Chris), both of Macon, Robert Tallant of Gordon, and Greg Tallant of Bluffton, IN; grandchildren, Jake Dempsey (Kayla), Sarah Dempsey, and Jessy Tallant; and great-grandsons, Kohen and Kaiden Dempsey.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Houston Lake Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Paul L. Bankson officiating. Nell will be laid to rest privately.
