Norbert Ronald "Bob" Hooper slipped away peacefully at home on Friday, June 1, 2012. He was eighty-four. His parents, Wayne and Louise Hooper, preceded him in death.
Mr. Hooper was a retired Air Force Chief Master Sargent and veteran of World War II, having supported the Berlin Air Lift. An air traffic controller, Mr. Hooper later worked in the tower at Tico Airport in Titusville, Florida and flight service stations at St. Simon's Island and Macon airports.
In his younger days, Mr. Hooper was an avid baseball player, traveling throughout Austria as a Golden Gloves shortstop on the Air Force's European travel team.
He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-four years, Virginia Hooper; five children, David Sarich, Valerie Tensen, Jill Giles, Russell Sarich and Debra Knox; eight grandchildren, Aaron, Torri and Connor Giles, Hunter and Dana Tensen, Rebecca and Joseph Sarich and Tabitha McMillan and great-grandchildren, Zoey, Aiden and Liam.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home with Funeral Services following at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Donations can be made to Hospice of Central Georgia 6261 Peak Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.
