Norman Gauthreaux, 78, entered into rest, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, March 7, 2009.
Mr. Gauthreaux was born on April 23, 1930, in Lockport, Louisiana. With pride and honor he served his country in the United States Navy, serving on diesel submarines, until his retirement as a Chief Petty Officer in 1969. He later retired Civil Service from Robins Air Force Base. An avid fisherman, fan of all sports and member of the American Legion, Mr. Gauthreaux volunteered his time as a coach and referee and received a letter of plenary indulgence from Pope Paul VI for his volunteer work as a basketball coach at St. Joseph's school in Lakeland, Florida. He was a loyal member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church but visited St. William's Catholic Church and Mt. Olive Baptist Church as he split his time between Warner Robins and Fitzgerald. His parents, Sylvester and Anna Gautreaux; first wife, Georgie Francis Owens and three brothers preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Betty Hall Gauthreaux; children, Denise Ridings (James), Douglas Gautreaux, Jerome Gautreaux (Mitzi); stepchildren, Ronnie Hall, Cindy Hall, Debbie Brown; sister, Inez Crain; brothers, Dudley Gautreaux, Nolan Gautreaux (Nora), Sylvester Gautreaux (Helen); grandchildren, Stacey Stephenson, Amiee Rushin (Cliff), Tiffany Howle (Jerry), William Gautreaux, John Gautreaux, Brandon Bray, Erin Thompson, Dru Ash (Sam), Linsey Moore, Terri Brown, Brad Brown and many great grandchildren.
A Scripture Service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2009, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with committal following in Magnolia Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 300 South Davis Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088; St. William's Catholic Church, 715 South Merrimac Drive, Fitzgerald, GA 31750; Mt. Olive Baptist Church, South Dixie Highway,
