Surrounded by family at home, Dee Walker Decker peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday night, December 22, 2020. She was 84.
The daughter of the late Mervin S. and Bertha Tweed Walker, Dee was born on September 13, 1936, in Kirksville, Missouri. She had a profound love for education and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Kirksville State Teachers College before going on later in life to earn her PhD in Special Education from Columbia State University. Her first job was teaching in a one-room schoolhouse before receiving an exciting offer to teach in California. The offer was accepted and along the way to California she and Robert Decker would elope, thus beginning a new adventure and a marriage that would span 60 years. Dee was a passionate educator and a natural born leader; she poured knowledge and love into the many young lives she touched through the years. Later, she became a homemaker who relished taking care of her children and then when her husband opened his own business, Camp-Tel Camper, she worked alongside him as the office manager. Of the Baptist faith, she served as a wonderful Christian example to everyone who knew her. She loved music and enjoyed expressing worship through song; she particularly enjoyed playing the piano and singing at her longtime church home, Victory Baptist, in Anaheim, California. Dee was an accomplished musician who also loved to travel and visit new places. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who was a fun, loving, and Godly woman who served her Lord and family well and faithfully.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Glenn Walker, Alice Lillard, Marine Walker, Nelda Hilpert, and Junior Walker.
Mrs. Decker is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert Harold Decker; children, Marsi Scully (Jim) of Warner Robins; Marni Farr (Rob) of Macon; Michael Decker (Jasmine) of Vancouver, Washington; grandchildren, Kara Goins (Chance), Ashley Scully, Natalie Scully, Caleb Farr (Grace); Corey Farr (Anna Grace), Cody Farr, Layla Decker, Alina Decker, Evan Decker, and three great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service with immediate family will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Farr officiating. Afterward, Mrs. Decker will be laid to rest in Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mrs. Decker to Serenity Hospice, 645 Tallulah Trail,Suite 202, Warner Robins, Georgia, 31088.
