Ovid Daniel Ricketson, 67, entered into rest on Saturday, June 22, 2013.
Mr. Ricketson was born on January 16, 1946, in Perry, Georgia. He grew up in Warner Robins and attended Auburn University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Ovid was a gifted artist who used his design ability to bring commercial products to the marketplace. During his career, he worked with many companies including Ampex Corporation, Diversified Products, Birmingham Publishing Company, Collegiate Sports Partners, and New Life Art. Through his company, Mercatus International, Ovid worked with many political campaigns in Jefferson County and throughout the state of Alabama. He served as assistant to Jefferson County Commissioner David Orange for five years. Ovid helped to found Christ Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and he was a member of the Rotary Club, having served as president of the Hoover(Alabama) chapter. In his mother's final years, Ovid returned to Warner Robins to assist with her care so she could remain in her own home. His parents, Elbert Hollis Ricketson and Lillie Mae Ricketson, and brothers Alvie L. Abston and J. Dale Abston preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Carolyn Ricketson of Birmingham, Alabama; son, Bradford D. Ricketson of Roswell, Georgia; brother, David Ricketson (Deneise) of Warner Robins; sisters-in-law, Betty Abston of Eatonton, Georgia, and Barbara Hudson of Gray, Georgia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 noon on Wednesday. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1137 Kathleen Bynum Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31093.
