Paul Murray

Paul Murray, born on September 9, 1935, in Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on December 29, 2024. He was the cherished son of the late Ralph and Mary Barrett Murray.

A dedicated serviceman, Paul served proudly in the United States Air Force for 20 years, during which he demonstrated his valor as a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His military journey included traveling with the Thunderbirds, showcasing his commitment to his country across the globe.

In 1974, after retiring from the Air Force, Paul relocated to Georgia, where he continued to serve his community. He worked with the Centerville Police Department for four years, and his commitment to public service shone through during his two decades as a city councilman in Centerville. In addition, he contributed to Robins Air Force Base in civil service for another 20 years.

Despite his many accomplishments, Paul was a quiet man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time on his tractor, playing golf, and deeply appreciated bluegrass music, particularly enjoying the songs of the Gaithers.

Paul shared a strong bond with his family, treasuring moments spent with his beloved wife of 68 years, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love for them knew no bounds, and they were a source of immense joy in his life.

He will be remembered not only for his service to his country and community but also for the warmth he exuded as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Paul Murray’s legacy of dedication and love will resonate through the lives he touched.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his sons, Ralph Benson Murray and Paul Jarrett Murray, Sr.; and siblings, Iva Carr, Loretta Brown, Ralph Murray, Jr., and Homer Murray.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Martha Olene Murray; grandchildren, Paul Jarrett Murray, Jr. (Samantha), Marcus Allen Murray (Kali), Andrew Paul Murray (Elizabeth), and Olivia Yawn (Timothy); great-grandchildren, Taylor, Dallas, Paxton, Jackson, Cheyenne, Pierson, Wesley, Warden, Witten, Ben, Damien, and Ryan; and daughter-in-law, Christine. 

Visitation will be Friday, January 3, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home with a funeral service immediately following in the chapel. Afterward, Paul will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.  For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/@McCulloughFuneralHome via the McCullough Funeral Home’s YouTube page.
