Warner Robins- Heaven only takes the very best, and on Sunday, November 29, 2009, it received one of the most gentle, giving souls in all of God's creation. Pete P. Garcia of Warner Robins, Georgia, lost a courageous battle to cancer, fighting long after most would have given up. As he rests today whole and happy at the feet of Jesus, those of us here from whom he is temporarily separated are heartbroken at his having left us. Pete was born March 11, 1935, in Deming, New Mexico to Alex and Francis Garcia. A great high school athlete, he went to Western New Mexico University on a football scholarship. He then joined the United States Air Force where he continued playing football on the Air Force European League. After serving in the military police, serving in Viet Nam, and many years as a First Sergeant, he retired from the Air Force after twenty-five distinguished years of service; he then was employed with Civil Service in information technology, and retired from that in 2005, giving him the well deserved opportunity to devote himself to his passion, golf. Even at the age of seventy-four, as a scratch golfer he made even his grandsons cringe at the idea of beating "ole grandpa."
Even with his distinguished career, his greatest legacy was his family. He made us smile, handled every problem, always had a shoulder ready to be leaned on, showed us love, and taught us everlasting values. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Jacqueline, and son Chuck. He leaves behind his son Allen P. Garcia and wife Tammy of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter Jody Kearley and husband Bruce of McDonough, Georgia; grandsons Allen Garcia, wife Desiree, and two great-grandsons of Alaska; Tyler Garcia of Warner Robins, David Kearley of Charleston, South Carolina, and Michael Kearley and wife Melissa of Niceville, Florida. He also leaves behind a brother Alex Garcia, Jr., and sisters, Tula Villegas, Mary Lou Leach, Stella Garcia, Jenny Quesada, and Cecilia Sandabal, as well as a number of nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
To all his friends, thank you for the joy you brought him. To all his golfing buddies, he finally has that perfect putt now. He loved the Lord and we all look forward to seeing him in Heaven again one day. "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for old things has passed away forever." Rev. 21:4
