Phyllis Michelle Stepongzi (Taitz)

January 23, 1957 — December 25, 2014

Phyllis Michelle Stepongzi, 57, was with her family when she died on December 25, 2014 after a long battle with cancer.
Phyllis was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of Manuel and Sara Taitz. She attended Georgia State University where she majored in Psychology and Education. She married Frank Stepongzi in 1983; a year later, he entered into the United States Air Force. Phyllis, due to her husband's varied assignments as a pilot, lived in many places around the United States, but most notably in Bossier City, LA near Shreveport, LA, and finally Warner Robins, GA.
Throughout her life, Phyllis worked as a school teacher who taught from first through 12th grade. She is best known for her time teaching high school where she had a unique ability to reach out to her students and to inspire them to succeed in education and life. Phyllis always looked for the good in each and every student she taught and never looked upon any child as a bad child.
Phyllis was devoted to Judaism throughout her life and taught Sunday school at both the Ahavath Achim Synagogue in Atlanta, GA, and the B'Nai Zion Temple in Shreveport, LA. Her knowledge and experience within her faith enabled her to serve as Camp Director for several years at Camp Chai in Shreveport, LA. Phyllis' devotion to teaching the next generation of children in both academics and religion spanned several decades.
Along with serving as Team Mom and coaching assistant, Phyllis served as a Bossier City Little League Commissioner for several years ensuring the needs of thousands of young athletes and coaches. Duties ranged from organizing the initial sign up of athletes, ordering and distributing equipment, scheduling games, to ensuring ball fields were ready for use.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Sara Taitz, and leaves behind her husband, Frank Stepongzi, her three children, Sandra Wildman (Mike), Chrissy Stepongzi, and Frank Stepongzi Jr., two grandchildren, Leila and Maya Wildman, and her sisters Marsha Grantling, Nancy Wright (Mike), Cindy Shaft (Chris), and her beloved and faithful dog, Ares. She will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her.
