R. J. Nesmith, 77, died Saturday, November 17, 2001 at Houston Medical Center. Services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, November 20 in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Glenhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Nesmith was born in Bulloch County, GA. He was retired from Civil Service at Robins AFB where he was an electrical engineer. He spent 7 years working with the NASA Program at Kennedy Space Center as an electrical engineer with Apollo 8 – 17. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He attained the rank of MasterSergeant. For his service, he received a Purple Heart, 3 Bronze Stars, the Silver Star and numerous other medals and decorations. Additionally, Mr. Nesmith was an ordained minister. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Leon and Edgie Lynn Nesmith; son, Don Nesmith; and a daughter, Bettie Holmes.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Lee Nesmith; son, Ronald J. Nesmith, Warner Robins; daughters, Doris Cripps, Chicamauga, GA; Diann Adair, Hiram, GA; Debbie Dicks, Luverne, AL; brothers, Marvin Nesmith, Metter; Remer Nesmith and Alton Nesmith, both of Statesboro; Robert Nesmith, Portal, GA; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
McCullough Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
